Independent pictures is the mark of the Swiss Association of Studio Film for committed cinema. The winged film stands for tension and entertainment, made by independent filmmakers for an open, critical and demanding audience. Those who pay attention see more.
The association unites distributors and cinemas working for independent cinema – in particular Swiss, European and emerging cinematographies. «Studio film» describes ambitious, high-quality films whose content, message and storytelling qualify as valuable.
The SSV works to keep a wide selection of studio films available. To this day, Switzerland’s density of cinemas and the diversity of programmes – including original versions – is unique in a European comparison. That diversity is the result of tireless work by cultural professionals in every part of the country.
The SSV supports this with cultural-policy statements, lobbying, legal advice, media work and relations with organisations and authorities.
